Help has been requested for the family of John Kiriakou, a former CIA employee who disclosed that top officials in the Bush administration authorized the use of water boarding on foreign terrorism suspects. Mr. Kirakou was sentenced to 30 months in prison for disclosing classified information but those who participated in water boarding have never been prosecuted.
The Kiriakou family’s financial situation is dire: They have lost their home and personal possessions, and owe $654,000 for legal expenses. Mrs. Kiriakou has a job, but does not earn enough to provide for their five children. The Government Accountability Project has set up a trust fund to accept donations for the Kiriakous. ( Look for the drop-down menu under “Please have my donation go to:” and select “John Kiriakou Trust Fund.”) All donations to the fund will go to the family, not attorneys.
