Ecuador Grants Asylum to Wikileaks’ Julian Assange

On Thursday, Ecuador’s foreign minister, Ricard Patino, announced that his government had granted diplomatic asylum to Julian Assange, who took refuge at Ecuador’s London embassy on June 19. President Rafael Correa explained in a radio interview that asylum was granted because Assange deserves due process, and Sweden had refused to give assurance that it would protect Assange from extradition to the US.   (more…)

Wikileaks founder offers advice to whistleblowers

In a video guide for whistleblowers, Julian Assange, founder of the whistleblowing website Wikileaks, offers tips on making anonymous disclosures, and states that Wikileaks has never lost a whistleblower. In an age of expanding domestic surveillance, it may be that no measures can completely eliminate the risk of one’s identity being revealed. On the other hand, many prospective whistleblowers are dangerously naive about reducing their risk of exposure.  (more…)
